Institute of Acoustics Southern Region Group Evening Meeting

This meeting examined aircraft acoustics from the perspective of issues concerning both the military and civilian sectors.

At the end of the meeting there was a tour around the spectacular QinetiQ Noise Test Facility,  including one of the largest anechoic chambers in the world.

Nicole Porter – Anderson Acoustics, formerly of the Civil Aviation Authority

Nicole spoke about the  challenges facing airports and the civil aviation authority in terms of noise to local residents, how these issues are currently being addressed, and the future considerations for an expected increase in flights.

Dr Rodger Munt – Specialist in helicopter noise modelling

Dr Munt gave an overview of the work he has carried out over the last 30+ years in modelling the noise propagation of helicopters for the MOD and later on for QinetiQ.
